We'd like to thank you, Robert and Morag, for a most enjoyable stay at Ardno House. Nothing was too much trouble for you, which we appreciated so much. The room was extremely comfortable in every aspect - the bed with its lovely linen, the underfloor heating, the chairs, the spacious bathroom, the tasty shortbread to accompany the tea/coffee. We thoroughly enjoyed all the meals we ate - the tasty breakfasts and the very satisfying dinners. We wish you all the best in your future there, and definitely will return if we are back in the beautiful area. Thanks again for your hospitality.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ardno House. The hosts, Robert and Morag, made us feel very welcome. The house is very comfortable with a beautiful landing to sit on overlooking the loch and a large selection of books. Our room was great and very clean, tea, coffee etc and the best homemade shortbread biscuits I've tasted. Meals, cooked by Robert were delicious, we had an evening meal two of the nights. We felt very safe as all hygiene precautions were in place regarding the Coronavirus.

Tips:

Inchcree Waterfalls, Glen Coe forest trail and Signal Rock and Glen Coe lochan. Also walks above the quarry and inside the quarry, I found it very peaceful walking round inside, probably a far cry from when people were working there. Also you can walk through the forest behind the house. We ate one evening at Loch Leven Hotel, food was very good. The Quarriers coffee shop do delicious strawberry tarts, had to call back a second time!!

20th August 2020:

Morag and Robert went above and beyond what we both had expected. There was a clear focus on cleanliness in response to Covid-19 and all mitigating measures and more were put in place. This however did not impede on how welcoming and kind they both made us feel. The little 'Homey' touches such as home made jam, fresh shortbread, boardgames for poor weather, and other kind gestures like this made us feel very much welcome. Also Robert's cooking, and especially his home cured bacon, was to die for! With such a beautiful location with panoramic views over the loch, we wished we could have stayed for longer.

Tips:

As our visit to Scotland was very last minute, we weren't aware of how much needed to be booked in advance. Thus, look at activities and distilleries etc. prior to travelling.

Our sincere thanks to you both for making our stay a very, very, happy and memorable one. We will definitely return in the not to distant future and we will recommend you and your beautiful home to family and friends. Once again thank you. Glyn and Harry Mucklow. PS we apologise for not writing comments in your book as we were leaving but we were having such a lovely chat with Morag about our dogs that we completely forgot about the book! never mind, promise we won't forget next time. Tips:

Enjoy the beautiful surroundings, the local eating places,(Hollytree Hotel is very good and is right on the loch side, lovely views as you eat).Visit Fort William, Neptunes Staircase, Glen Finnan. But most of all arrive at Ardno house knowing that you will receive the warmest of welcomes and will be so impressed with your room, bed, breakfast, views and your lovely hosts(and their fantastic dog1).ENJOY.

Beautiful and immaculate property backed by forest and mountain, with views to the loch across the road. I loved the little 2nd floor sitting room outside our suite where we could read, gaze at the view or play games. Robert and Morag were warm and welcoming hosts who served one of the best breakfasts we had during our 10 days in Scotland. I would have loved to stay longer!

Tips:

The landscape is rugged, dramatic and beautiful! The night sky was so clear that we saw stars normally hidden by light pollution back home. We randomly pulled off the main road for an easy walk and ended up hiking past the Claighaig Inn, a hikers inn, restaurant and pub. We went back later for a drink and the live folk music. Fun and lively atmosphere but very crowded and noisy with people more interested in drinking and talking than listening to the music. The Glencoe Visitors Center is a must!

You really feel the B&B is personally run and that you are a guest being welcomed into their home. The decor whilst a little outdated is freshly painted and immaculate. Huge rooms and huge bathroom. The guest lounge was lovely, as were touches like homemade shortbread and fresh milk in the guest fridge. Breakfast was perfection, best we have ever had, and endless amounts of fresh hot toast! Lovely to chat with Morag who is incredibly kind. And as we missed ours, we loved their very smart adorable dog who knows how to elicit cuddles and attention :) !! The one thing we would change is the bed... hard and noisy and mattress past its best, but I know these things are subjective...

This is a gem of a guesthouse in idyllic surroundings. We had a lovely room with view of the loch complete with sunset! Large room with king size comfy bed. Morag and Robert were warm and welcoming hosts. Delicious and hearty breakfast was the perfect start to our day. Ours was a one night stop-over on our way back from Skye. Next time we'll stay longer to more fully enjoy the delights of this beautiful area. There's a path to the hillside immediately behind the house - part of the Caledonian Way if I remember correctly. All round perfect.

Tips:

Across the road to the front of the house there is a picturesque footpath/cycle track along the loch where a pleasant 25/30 walk will take you to a hotel with restaurant and bar with terrace enjoying beautiful loch and mountain views. Glencoe visitor centre (National Trust) is a very short drive away and is well worth the visit providing panoramic views of Glencoe and a starting point for many lovely walks. The souvenir shop seemed a lot more reasonably priced than others on our trip too.

Wonderful, wonderful! Beautiful home, spacious room, lovely view of the loch. The hosts went above and beyond to help us borrow folding chairs and umbrella to use during a Highland festival. We chose this B&B because of limited mobility due to age and recent surgeries, having a ground floor room and a shower to step into rather than a tub with a shower. Breakfasts were excellent and begin early, so that helped us be on the road quickly. Thank you for the exceptional hospitality!

Tips:

Glencoe ski area is close by and if you have a sunny day a chairlift ride to the top will afford spectacular views!

We absolutely loved our stay and wish we had stayed longer! Ardno was very easy to find, and there is plenty of parking. The views from the room were phenomenal. The bed was huge and comfy, the room spotless. The bathroom was massive and I could see the mountain behind from the bathtub! The owners were extremely kind and friendly, and very welcoming. Oh and the food was fantastic! We will definitely be passing on the details to friends and family.

Tips:

Ardno is very close to Glen Coe where there are phenomenal views of the mountains. The falls at Kinlocheven are a beautiful spot for pictures (and I had a dip!) and are about 15 minutes drive away. The B&B is also on the cycle route from Kentallen to Ballachulish.

Beautiful room with the sea just outside the window. Nice breakfast. And the nicest people to welcome you and make you feel comfortable. No need to look for another address when we arrive in Scotland next year !!!

Highland Titles- you can own your little plot of Scotland and help preserve nature, and get a tour around! There is a seafood restaurant a few miles when you turn left from the cottage - they even have a swimming pool!

What an idyllic place to stay right on the Loch. While you still need to drive to get to a pub/restaurant and other attractions, it really isn't far. We felt very welcomed and were given great advice about what to see/do in the surrounding areas. I would recommend this B&B to others.

Tips:

The Loch Leven hotel was fantastic, a cost country pub on the Loch with seriously great food. I love a good pub that you can take your dog into, and this one had about 4 dogs sitting happily and quietly next to their owners. A visit up the Glencoe ski lift was great too, took some lovely photos. Also cannot forget to mention the Clachaig Inn- another great pub with good food and a lovely atmosphere- fantastic live music with a good Scottish feel!

Very friendly, lovely house and facilities. But we were a bit forgotten at breakfast because old friends were staying and the focus appeared to be on their needs...

Tips:

Best to ask owners about restaurants - unless eating very early it seems to be necessary to book. We couldn't get a booking in the restaurant at the local pub but managed to eat in the bar - restaurant was almost empty by the time we finished our meals, so don't understand why we couldn't get an early booking. Strange... maybe it is a local custom to not take bookings...?

A lovely warm welcome on arrival. Our room was so comfortable, immaculately clean and with a generous hospitality tray. Spacious bathroom with every facility and beautiful, soft towels. Stunning views over the Loch particularly at sunset. Plentiful breakfast and of good quality-haggis and black pudding especially delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return when next in Glen Coe.

Tips:

Lots of good restaurants locally and all highlighted in the Information folder in the lounge. We've visited the area many times and scenic drives abound. We love the road along the Ardnamurchan Peninsula to the lighthouse, the road past the Five Sisters of Kintail to Eilean Donan Castle, the little road to Kingairloch which can be done as a small diversion en route to the Mull Ferry at Lochaline. And, actually, any road in any direction-the whole area is spectacular!

Far and away the best B & B in its class that we stayed in during our 3 weeks visiting/touring Scotland. Everything physical about Ardno House reeks of quality. Combine that with the friendliness and the shared local knowledge from the hosts, Alan and his wife, and you get our 5-star rave.

Tips:

Sensational dining at Loch Leven Seafood; decent food but poor service at the Holly Tree Hotel; great hike on the North Face trail to the hut at the base of Ben Nevis out of Ft. Ardno House, a lovely B&B set on the banks of Loch Linnhe, beautiful scenery. Run by Alan & Pat,your hosts and a really nice couple. Pat booked us into a local restaurant for an evening meal and on the Sunday Alan gave us written directions for places to visit in the area. Took us step by step, too places and sights we would have never had seen, thanks again Alan.

Tips:

Ask Alan for directions, Went across the loch on the Corran Ferry, Forrestry comm -Otter/ Seal Hide, Castle Tioram, Camusdarach- Beaches, Then to Glen Finnan Viaduct ( Harry Potter Train) Glencoe Monument and finally onto Neptunes Staircase, a set of eight locks at Banavie.

Alan and Pat were great hosts. Alan was very helpful and his tips and local knowledge helped us a lot. Breakfast was delicious and so many choices, thanks Pat! Having come from a place which was a little cramped we all relished the opportunity to enjoy the large rooms and ensuite bathrooms. I particularly loved the reading landing, the view was wonderful. Actually the view from all our rooms was delightful!

We enjoyed a great meal at The Laroch in Ballachulish village, it's very popular (rightly so) so be sure to book.

Thanks again to Alan and Pat, who are welcoming and friendly, and provided helpful advice on places worth visiting.

Alan & Pat were excellent hosts and our room was very comfortable with a great view of the loch. The Guest House has a lovely lounge area overlooking the loch - it's full of maps and books on the area. Ample car parking right outside and alongside Arno House. Breakfasts were superb on both days. We would recommend Arno House to anyone visiting the area - it's an ideal base for Oban, Glencoe and the whole Fort William Area.

Tips:

Meals: Avoid the Clachaig Inn at Glencoe - understaffed with awful food. The Holly Tree Hotel and 'The View' are excellent - just west towards Oban.

Tips:

We had dinner at the Lochleven Seafood Café, which was good, but really overpriced. Trip with the Jacobite from nearby Fort William is lovely, but Mallaig itself was a disappointment. Try the Ben Nevis Inn for lunch or dinner, it's really great! Would have loved to explore the Glencoe area more.

Thank you for your kind and positive review which is very much appreciated. I`m a little puzzled by your comment re Wi-Fi because it is included ,free of charge, with the access code prominently displayed in each room so if you did use Wi-Fi there would have been no cost. Pat and Alan are amazing hosts, we were greeted at the door with a very warm and genuine welcome. We have stayed in some of the best hotels in the UK including 5 star hotels in London and Pat's cooked breakfast is one of the best I have eaten. Pat and Alan are wonderful people, it was a joy to make their acquaintance.

Tips:

Both the Ballachulish Hotel and the Holly Tree Hotel offer superb meals. I would say that the Ballachulish has the edge on the Holly Tree, but only just. Neither are far from Ardno, BUT, I recommend booking a table as both places get very busy. Glencoe visitors centre is not far away and offers beautiful walks in the Scottish Highlands for a very modest parking fee of just £2.00 a day. Riding the Jacobite Steam Train from Fort William to Mallaig is a MUST. Be sure to book well in advance and go for a 1st class ticket, it's well worth the extra cost. Once in Mallaig, be sure to eat some fish and chips, you won't regret it. Share a portion if Pat's breakfast isn't allowing you to be hungry enough. In Glencoe village is "Crafts and Things", they sell wonderful items and have a lovely teashop, be sure not to miss it. Oban is only 30 miles away and has everything a seaside town has to offer. Be sure to visit McCaig's Warehouse for gifts to take home and also visit Tweeds shop. Taking an extra hour to go on the Oban Distillery tour is well worth it. You get to see how whisky is made and two tastes are offered. You even get to keep the etched glass the taster comes in. With beautiful scenery in every direction and a wonderful B&B like Ardno to stay at, your holiday in Scotland will be just perfect, you won't want to go home, that I can promise you.

We really enjoyed our stay at Ardno House. The location is perfect for exploring the Glen Coe area. The house itself is beautiful and our room was great (super clean and well appointed). I think that it was the largest bathroom that we had in Scotland. Alan was VERY helpful and gave us great suggestions for things to do. We highly recommend and would stay again.

Unbelievably hospitable, friendly and welcoming, despite eccentric requests for bicycle storage, luggage storage, early starts, and late finishes. Pat and Alan went well beyond the call of duty on many occasions, and very cheerfully too. The drying facilities also deserve a special mention, spacious and effective (garage includes warming boiler and drying racks and can also be used to store bikes).Particularly recommended for cyclists as right on the route 78 cycle path. Breakfasts also very good and plentiful.

We loved the Ardno House!! The owners run a fine business with cozy, clean rooms and a wonderful breakfast. The location is right next to the lake, and the perfect spot to explore Ballachulish, Glencoe, and Fort William. Having a hot, full Scottish breakfast every morning was a great way to start the day!

Tips:

If arriving at Ardno House at night, do be careful to pay attention to directions. We followed Google maps, and it took us to the wrong place. It's definitely a lot more difficult to see at night. Luckily, Alan has a nice, lit-up sign that's easy to spot. We wish we would have stopped at the Ballachulish hotel for a meal or a drink, it was so cute inside!! Almost like a medieval castle, and very close to the Ardno House. The Onich Hotel nearby had a lovely meet up of local musicians, and we got to hear some wonderfully traditional Highland music. Check the local listings at the Ardno House for events.

Had a wonderful comfortable stay. It was lovely to meet Pat and Alan, and they were so kind when my husband was feeling unwell, and gave us the number of the local doctor, who saw us within 2 hours! Room was so comfortable and I slept better than I have in years! Breakfasts were great and plenty of choice. Our Canadian friends thoroughly enjoyed their stay.

Tips:

We know the area well, so it was a joy to visit familiar places. Glen Coe is a very special place and the walking is good, even for the old and bad knees!!! Ate at the Loch Leven Hotel, and Ballachulish Hotel and the meals were excellent. Holly Tree was also excellent, but a bit pricey. Fort William and Oban area within easy distance and if my husband had felt better we would have driven further to Loch Ness and Castle Urquhart. Oban Distillery was on the list of must see, but did not this time, so had to buy bottles of Oban Malt in the shops!! Did a great deal of shopping in Glen Nevis shop and Craft and Things in Glen Coe. Glen Nevis is a must visit and also Glenfinnan - all within easy reach!

Friendly owners and happy to spend time talking to you about where to go and what to see etc. excellent views from our front bedroom and very comfortable bed. Difficult to fault. Good breakfast but the only very minor criticism for me was that the sausage served as one part of the hearty cooked breakfast was more of the salami type which might suit some ... but not for me. I'm really searching for negatives though!!! All in all a very relaxing stay.

Tips:

We were recommended to go to The Holly Tree pub/restaurant. We walked there along a cycle track (25 mins brisk walking) and had a lovely meal which was well cooked. The location of the restaurant was beautiful (right on the coast) and the staff were attentive and friendly. Thoroughly recommended and good value. We also travelled to our next stay (in Ballahulish) via a beautiful coast road and the (free) Corran ferry. Thanks Ardno for recommending this route to us. Gorgeous scenery al route.

We had a wonderful stay in your B&B. Thank you for your hospitality. You let us feel very much at home. Thank you for your good travel advice. Plockton is a very beautiful village and the scenery along north west coast to Inverness is stunning. For your information, the walk to Holly Tree Hotel is more like 40 to 50 minutes rather than 20 minutes. The food in the bar was delicious but three of us all ended up in the toilet on the same night. This is not a complain to you as it is nothing to do with your service.

Fantastic welcome in this wonderful house with magical views over the loch. We felt at home immediately. Breakfast was delicious and our hosts (the B-team ;-) have done every effort possible to make our stay as fantastic as it was. The sitting room upstairs was a great plus for resting our weary legs for a while. A little plus would be to have a small fridge in this room for storing water bottles etc. But that's just a detail. One of our best stays ever!

Tips:

Fine food (lots of seafood) and beautiful views in The Holly Tree (hotel restaurant), close to Ardno House. Fantastic and laidback "Scottish mountain atmosphere" in the Clachaig Inn in Glencoe. We went on a saturday night and the live music was great. We made use of Alistair's taxi service.

On top of that Alan and Pat were excellent hosts helping us to decide where to visit and walk as so many places to see. Would definitely stay there again.

Tips:

We took the ferry to Skye and returned by the bridge which made for a full day out. Glencoe is good to visit and the Visitor Centre there shouldn't be missed. Plenty of walking nearby. Ardno House can suggest where to eat as can't remember the names.
