29th November 2020:

Neil was very helpful, easy to reach and on hand if anything was required. Cottage was spacious and so quiet and relaxing. Fully equipped with everything that could possibly be needed - a real home from home! Will definitely be back and would highly recommend.

Tips:

I found the fact that Coop shop was nearby a huge bonus plus 2 different places to eat practically on doorstep and in a lovely village setting. Loads to see and do in terms of scenery and walks.

Excellent location with great amenities on the doorstep. Lots of fantastic walks and beautiful scenery - we’ll be back!

Tips:

Quarriers was great for takeaway food and Glencoe cafe great for lunch. Dog-friendly area which appealed to us. The walk to Brecklet is worth doing as well as walks from Glencoe village to the pap of Glencoe and the lochan. Would recommend a day trip to Glen Nevis - again great walks for the dogs and beautiful scenery. The art gallery in North Ballachulish (Holroyd) is worth a visit for those who enjoy a variety of art work.

23rd May 2019:

A friend and I stayed here for 9 nights in May, mainly to do some hillwalking in the Glencoe and Glen Nevis areas. It proved to be an excellent base for this purpose, being situated between Glencoe and Fort William. The cottage was clean, comfortable and very spacious. With two en-suite rooms we were able to 'spread out' and have a room each. There is a Co-Op just round the corner which was very handy, and a pub which serves meals across the road. We would be very pleased to stay here again.

Tips:

Co-Op round the corner. Pub across the road. Fort William half an hour away. We went to photograph the 'Jacobite' steam train crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct. We drove round the coast to Oban, and returned via Loch Awe and Tyndrum, which is a very scenic route. On the way we visited the Historic Iron Furnace at Bonawe near Taynuilt, which was very enjoyable and worthwhile.

This is our third time at this cottage,we love it.The cottage has everything you need, great location, handy for everything and Neil and his wife are perfect hosts, very friendly and helpful.

Tips:

There is so much to do in the area, walking, cycling, ski-ing in winter, sight seeing, history, great places to eat and drink. Wherever you go you're surrounded by beautiful scenery. One of our favourite places is Glen Etive, it's lovely and you're very likely to meet some very friendly deer along the way !!

4th December 2018:

The place was located near our family so that was great. The place is well kitted out-although a bit dated.Lots of parking.Located on the bus route, so if you are not driving it is very handy. The rooms are of a good size-plenty of room for everyone-huge living room and kitchen diner. The yard is lovely.Hosts knowledgeable about the area and can help you if you need it-they have answers for your questions!!

Tips:

This place is located near a Co-operative grocery store,Quarriers Fish and Chips, a tourist information centre with a coffee and light lunch spot is a few steps away.A small hardware store is across the street as well. You can walk to the old slate quarry and enjoy the walks about it.Go learn about the MacDonald massacre, see the Lochen made to look like Canada for his Canadian bride, so much to see and do-hills to walk, food to eat, shops to look around in!

6th September 2018:

a warm welcome with short introduction of the cottage and facilities. Neil and Katya are very helpfull, and you can ask them anything, they are always willing to help you. Enough space for the cars, enough space for 4 adults (and also 2 dogs) and a lot of equipment in the house. We feeled very comfortable after a day of running or walking/climbing when we get back there.

Tips:

the Angor has very good food ! There are very nice walks starting from Ballachulish, also some heavy ones like Beinn a'Bheithir. Glencoe is just a short way to the east for some great walks/climbs, wonderful there. On the road it's very busy, but once you get in the mountains, they're all gone (not with populair routes like the lost valley :-( ...very busy....better do it in spring or autumn)

Our stay was a very pleasant one Neil made us feel very welcome on arrival & was very helpful. The house itself was marvellous & we didn't want to leave. It was a fantastic holiday & we fully recommend this place. Many Thanks to Neil & his Wife for having us.

Tips:

The Laroch Pub and Restaurant across the road is not only convenient but an excellent venue. Walks wise our favourite was the Lost Valley of Glencoe quite challenging but it's worth it at the end.

9th April 2018:

We have had a fabulous week in Neil's cottage. The location and facilities make it a perfect choice for all - especially for families with children as well as senior visitors. Ballachulish itself is a perfect location to explore Lochaber and beyond. The community has made a lot of effort to support tourism and hospitality which is to be commended.

Tips:

Apart from some serious walks and hikes in the area, there are a number of low-level walks suitable for all abilities. The quarry in Ballachulish offers a short, easy walk as well as a 2.5 km one up the hill. There is Loch Lochan in Glencoe with three walks - two of which are suitable for all abilities. Inchree waterfall is only on the other side of the loch in Onich - this can be a more challenging walk for some. Take the ferry across to Corran (free for foot passengers) or go to Fort William where there is the Nevis Mountain Range, the Life in the Highlands museum as well as a number of shops for all budgets. Glenfinnan Monument has become too busy for us due to it being a Harry Potter film location but do visit Glenfinnan Church up the hill from the visitor centre on the road to Mallaig. It is beautiful, peaceful and very welcoming. Opposite the church is Glenfinnan train station with an old dining car that is now a café. Lovely food, super friendly staff and glorious views over Glenfinnan - a bit of a secret tip for families. For those not minding a 90 minute drive from Balla, go to Morar Sands - turquoise waters will be your reward.

22nd April 2017:

A very comfortable stay and would recommend this property. A couple of scores of four were given for the following reasons: Parts of the property felt a bit dated and the pots/pans needed a clean before use. Knives could do with a really good sharpen, but this is something we notice in many properties.

Tips:

Basic essentials (hand wash, toiletries etc..) all provided and a little welcome pack in the fridge makes a lovely touch. Stayed in many properties before where not even a dish cloth has been provided. No m Need to drive miles, loads to do on your doorstep.

Owner Response:

Thank you for your review, and we're very sorry to hear you felt the need to mark us down in a couple of areas. We've taken your comments on board and we will make sure pots and pans are clean in future. We already make sure they've been through the dishwasher but we'll be extra vigilant. And we have plans to modernise as soon as time and money allows.

7th April 2017:

The cottage is ideally located with easy access to local amenities. There are several low-level walks with spectacular scenery nearby.

Tips:

There are a number of small Highland churches in the valley (St Mary's in Glencoe and St Brides in Onich). Crossing on the Corran Ferry and exploring the Strontian Peninsula can be very relaxing for nature lovers. There are a number of good food places in Fort William - Wetherspoons standing out with their quality of food and their service.

cottage warm and well equipped

Tips:

Enjoyed the Laroch restaurant opposite, went twice, highly recommended. Also tried the Clachaig for old times sake but found it much changed and very disappointing, poor service and lost its character - avoid. The Co-op is very useful - eg fresh rolls every morning.

Lovely cottage, lots of facilities, plenty of space and very helpful owners (they live in the guest house next door).

Tips:

The restaurant/pub next door serves good food with plenty of choice. The chippy is also decent. It's a shame that these (& the Isles of Glencoe hotel) are the only eating establishments in the village. After this, you need to drive or take a taxi to Glencoe. The landscape in the area is dramatic providing ski slopes in winter, year round walkers, artists, and photographers alike.
